Our History and Our Future...
In 1972, Jim Dickey bought a local chicken hatchery and opened "Dickey's Chickys," supplying chicks and chickens to local farms and ranches. Later, Jim added feed and supplies and, daughter, Janice Morgan, joined the business and became well known as the "Chicken Lady" of Rapid City. Later, they became the area's "Zip Feeds" dealer, providing quality, locally produced feeds at reasonable prices. Jim Dickey's son Larry returned to the area after running a successful business in Oregon. Together, Larry and Janice took over the store in 1994 and became D&M Ag Supply, operating as Rapid City's exclusive Hubbard feeds dealership when Zip Feeds was bought out.
In 2018, Paul and Jana Shankle purchased the store from Larry and Janice and operated it as a family business with their children, Mia and Jack (until they graduated college in 2023). The "D&M" name transitioned from "Dickey and Morgan" to "Dad and Mom's"!
Since the first day in business, D&M has been bringing the best selection of quality products and friendly service to our customers. We do our best to ensure we have the 'tried and true' supplies, freshest feed and healthiest chickens you need at a reasonable price, provided to you with friendly, personalized service, with feeds carried right to your vehicle!

In 2021, D&M became a Kent Nutrition Feeds dealer, further expanding services to the Rapid City and surrounding area.
2022 saw D&M help transition customers from locally-owned "Pet Giant," adding a full line of Victor Pet Foods and Fromm Gold Dog food to the existing Taste of the Wild, Diamond, and Nutrisource Pet Food offerings.
In 2024, D&M merged with Hot Iron Farrier Supply, transferring their stock to our store, almost tripling our floor stock of quality horseshoes, tools, and other supplies. We also became a TexKota Panel dealer, providing Sheep & Goat panels, gates and feeder panels to our local small animal herdsmen, and added Bil-Jac Frozen Dog Food to our pet food lineup.
For 2025, D&M became the first New Country Organics dealer in Rapid City, providing high-quality, soy-free, nutrition-based organic feeds for a wide variety of animals.
